Calendar presenters become patrons
The Prince of Wales Hospice welcomes three new Patrons, ITV Calendar presenters Gaynor, Christine and Duncan.

Following nearly two decades of support, ITV Calendar news presenters, Gaynor Barnes, Christine Talbot and Duncan Wood have accepted an invitation from the Hospice Board of Trustees to become Patrons of The Prince of Wales Hospice.

Talking about her new role, Gaynor Barnes said; 'We are all very delighted and very honoured to be asked to be Patrons of this wonderful, wonderful charity...We have supported it over many, many years.

'Thank you so much for asking me to be a Patron and I hope over the months and years to come I can support you and give you my whole hearted love.'

Christine Talbot adds; 'When you go and visit the Hospice it's always such an amazing place. There's always such a warm, friendly atmosphere and it is a great pleasure to be there. I know there are many sad reasons why people are there, but there are also very positive feelings when you go in and it is a happy place as well. To be actually asked to be a Patron is a great honour and a privilege.'

Gaynor, Christine and Duncan have shown incredible commitment and dedication to supporting the Hospice over the years, and their contribution is greatly appreciated. Each of the presenters takes time out of their busy schedules to attend shop openings, fundraising events, front Hospice appeals and present awards at the Hospice's annual staff and volunteer awards evening.

Last year, the Hospice celebrated its 30 anniversary year and the trio were instrumental in the success of the celebrations. In conjunction with ITV Calendar, a 30th anniversary special aired on the evening news show showcasing the work of the Hospice, narrated by Christine. It was also a great honour to welcome Christine and Duncan to the Hospice ball, where they hosted the evening.

David Stewart, Chief Executive at the Hospice has worked alongside the Calendar presenters over many years and explains the decision to make Gaynor, Christine and Duncan Patrons. He said;

In recognition of their tremendous support over many years to the work of the Hospice and of their tremendous support of our staff, volunteers and supporters, the Board of Trustees was unanimous in the view that Gaynor, Christine and Duncan should be invited to become Patrons of the Hospice.  They have unstintingly given that support despite their busy professional lives, and are often to be seen at Hospice fundraising, remembrance and colleague events where they’re commitment is recognised and is greatly appreciated by all present.

'Patients and their loved ones are especially delighted to meet someone from the ‘telly’ when they are in the Hospice, and those visits bring moments of joy to all.

We are therefore delighted that they have accepted the invitations to become Patrons, and are looking forward to working with them for many years to come.'
