From sponsored walks and running challenges to cycling adventures and community events, September brought together people with a shared aim: raising vital funds for The Prince of Wales Hospice.
Every fundraiser has their own reason for supporting us, whether it’s remembering someone special, giving back after experiencing our care or helping local people and families who need us. Here’s a look at some of the fundraising highlights and the people who have made a difference.
Paws for a Cause: Fun Dog Show
Paws for a Cause returned on Sunday 6 September for the annual Fun Dog Show, raising an amazing £1050 for our Hospice. With dog show classes, family games, competitions, food and beverage stalls, plus agility and scent work, there was plenty to enjoy throughout the day. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event possible, including Doghouse Training Centre, Michelle’s Flowers Limited and Canine Capabilities, as well as everyone who came along to support the Hospice.
Castleford Spiritualist Church raises £1,581
Castleford Spiritualist Church dedicated August to fundraising for the Hospice, organising a range of activities, from raffles to a 79-mile walk over six days. Their efforts raised an impressive £1,581, with additional donations received after the cheque presentation. Thank you to everyone at Castleford Spiritualist Church who took part and helped raise these vital funds.
Issy and Lewis take on the York 10K in memory of Kev
Issy and Lewis took on the York 10K to raise money for the Hospice while Issy’s father-in-law, Kev, was receiving care with us. Following Kev’s passing, they wanted to give something back and recognise the hard work and support provided by our staff right to the end. Their efforts raised an incredible £1,000 for the Hospice. We’re very grateful to Issy and Lewis for choosing to support us in Kev’s memory.
Richard and colleagues take on Tour de HMP
Richard and a group of colleagues completed Tour de HMP, an ambitious cycling challenge in memory of Richard’s wife, who was cared for at the Hospice. The team cycled more than 190 miles in just over 23 hours, visiting 14 prisons along the way. The challenge brought colleagues together for a cause that means a great deal to Richard and his family. Thank you to Richard and everyone involved for taking on this remarkable challenge in support of our Hospice.
Crossroads Truck and Bus raises £2,162
The team at Crossroads Truck and Bus swapped their usual journeys for a 12-mile walk between their office in Birstall and their other office in Normanton. Their efforts raised £2,162 for the Hospice, demonstrating how workplace challenges can bring colleagues together while supporting a local cause. Thank you to everyone at Crossroads Truck and Bus who took part and helped make the fundraiser such a success.
£2,000 raised at Rat Run 14 Scooter Rally
Rat Run 14 Scooter Rally brought people together for a weekend of camping, socialising and fundraising for local causes. The event raised a generous £2,000, with the Hospice benefiting from the support. We’re incredibly thankful to everyone involved for their generosity and for thinking of our charity.

We’re delighted that Xscape Yorkshire has chosen The Prince of Wales Hospice as its charity partner. The Xscape Castleford team has already raised more than £7,000 for our Hospice, recently celebrated with a special cheque presentation with Dan. We’re incredibly grateful for their continued support and look forward to working together to raise more vital funds for local patients and their families.
Community Entertainment Association donates £2,000
For years, the Community Entertainment Association has been raising money for The Prince of Wales Hospice at The Horse and Jockey Pub in Altofts. Their latest donation of £2,000 brings their incredible fundraising total to more than £30,000, helping us continue to provide vital care and support to local patients and their families. A huge thank you to everyone involved for their continued generosity and support over the years. It really does make a difference.

Team PWH takes on the Castleford 10K
Team Prince of Wales Hospice was out in force at the Castleford 10K, with 12 runners proudly representing the Hospice on the day. It was brilliant to see our team taking on the challenge, showing their support and raising awareness of the care we provide to local people and their families. A huge thank you to all 12 runners for being part of Team PWH. Well done, everyone!
