Meet the newest members of our Wellbeing team, Bella and Penny!

14 May 2026

Four-year-old Bella is our newest Therapy Dog. She has a friendly, gentle nature and loves meeting new people, making her a perfect companion for our patients.

Whether it’s going for walks, saying hello to other dogs or enjoying plenty of cuddles, Bella is always happiest when she’s around others. And if you happen to have a digestive biscuit, you’ll have a friend for life!

Bella’s human, Penny, retired two years ago after a long career as a management accountant, working with more than 20 charities since 1995. She has also supported several organisations as a trustee treasurer, so bringing Bella into a volunteering role felt like a natural next step.

Penny was inspired to get involved after seeing the comfort Bella brought to her dad during a difficult time last year. After he spent nine weeks in hospital, Bella’s visits at home lifted his spirits, and Penny realised the difference they could make together to others going through similar experiences.

After successfully completing their assessments with Therapy Dogs Nationwide, Bella and Penny joined us as volunteers and have already begun sharing smiles across the hospice.

Outside of volunteering, Penny enjoys spending time with her family, especially helping with her four young granddaughters, and visiting her home in France with her husband.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming Bella and Penny on their visits and seeing the comfort and joy they bring to our patients, families and staff.
