Fundraising highlights: May’s incredible community support

16 June 2026

Throughout May, we’ve continued to see incredible support from our community, local businesses, fundraisers and volunteers.

Every event, donation and act of kindness helps us continue providing compassionate care and support to local patients and their families when they need it most. Here are some of this month’s highlights:

Sunset Stroll 2026 – Sponsored by T.F. Morritt Funeral Directors
A big thank you to T.F. Morritt Funeral Directors for sponsoring our Sunset Stroll 2026. This much-loved event brings our community together to remember loved ones, reflect on cherished memories and support local Hospice care. We are incredibly grateful for their support in helping make the event possible and ensuring it continues to be a meaningful part of our annual calendar.

Golf Day Support – Phil Morris
We are incredibly grateful to Phil Morris for his continued support of our annual Golf Day. Phil generously donated a fantastic range of raffle and auction prizes for this year’s event, including a full set of golf clubs, signed A.P. McCoy memorabilia, a golf polo shirt, alcohol and more. Despite being unable to attend this year due to a family wedding, he still entered a team in support of the Hospice, which reflects his ongoing commitment to our work and the difference it makes locally.

Celebration Dinner – Pennine Recruitment & Prosper Accountancy
We’re delighted to welcome Pennine Recruitment and Prosper Accountancy as joint Platinum Sponsors of our Celebration Dinner. We are also very grateful to their Directors, Michael Harle and Jeremy Mangham, for their continued support. The Celebration Dinner brings together our community to recognise and celebrate the difference Hospice care makes every day, and their support plays an important role in making this possible.

Pontefract 10K – Community Support
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Pontefract 10K in support of The Prince of Wales Hospice. It was fantastic to see so many runners and supporters on the day, with every mile completed and every donation made helping to raise vital funds for local patients and families. We are so grateful to everyone who chose to support the Hospice as part of their challenge.

Pontefract Superstore Opening
We were delighted to officially open our brand new Pontefract Superstore this month, with a fantastic turnout from the local community. From the moment the doors opened, it was brilliant to see people browsing, donating and showing their support for the Hospice. We were pleased to welcome the Town Crier and the Mayor of Wakefield, and a special thank you goes to local busker Jake for helping create such a great atmosphere. We are also incredibly grateful to our staff and volunteers whose hard work made the opening possible, and we are thrilled to share that over £7,000 was raised on the very first day.

Event Sponsorship – Hannah Davies Personal Estate Agent
A huge thank you to Hannah Davies – Personal Estate Agent for supporting our Hospice as a sponsor of three of our 2026 events: Family Fun Day, Sunset Stroll and Elf Run. Their continued support helps us deliver events that bring our community together while also raising vital funds for Hospice care for local patients and families.

Fyffes Donation
We were kindly donated a delivery of bananas from Fyffes, which were shared across the Hospice with patients, families, staff, volunteers and supporters. Simple gestures like this are always greatly appreciated and help bring a little extra comfort and care into the Hospice environment.

Giving from the Art – Community Event
We were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout at our Giving from the Art event, which raised an incredible £2,357.85. Held at Rogerthorpe Manor and hosted by Gaynor Barnes, the evening brought together art lovers and Hospice supporters for an auction of generously donated artwork. We would like to thank Lynette Carlton for organising the event, as well as Rogerthorpe Manor, Campsall Art Group, Sandra Openshaw, and everyone who donated, attended and supported the evening.

Robertson Group – Charity Football Support
We were pleased to receive support from Robertson Group / Robertson Facilities Management Wakefield following their charity football match, which raised £260 for the Hospice. We are very grateful to everyone involved for their fundraising efforts, and it was wonderful to hear about their visit and their reflections on the care and support provided by the Hospice.

Pontefract and District Breast Cancer Group – Teddy Bear Donation
We were recently delighted to receive a generous donation of teddy bears from the head of the Pontefract and District Breast Cancer Group. The donation was kindly organised by our amazing nurse Sandi, who recognised that young family members had been visiting the Hospice and felt that having a teddy bear available could offer a small source of comfort during what can be a very difficult time. Thoughtful gestures like this make a real difference to families, helping to bring comfort and reassurance when it is needed most.
