Throughout May, we’ve continued to see incredible support from our community, local businesses, fundraisers and volunteers.
Every event, donation and act of kindness helps us continue providing compassionate care and support to local patients and their families when they need it most. Here are some of this month’s highlights:
Sunset Stroll 2026 – Sponsored by T.F. Morritt Funeral Directors
We’re pleased to welcome T.F. Morritt Funeral Directors as a sponsor of Sunset Stroll 2026. The annual event brings together hundreds of people from across our community for an evening of remembrance, reflection and fundraising in support of local Hospice care. Their sponsorship helps us continue delivering an event that means so much to many families while raising vital funds that support our services.
Golf Day Support – Phil Morris
Our Golf Day once again benefited from the generosity of Phil Morris, who donated an impressive selection of raffle and auction prizes, including a full set of golf clubs, signed A.P. McCoy memorabilia, a golf polo shirt, alcohol and more. Although Phil was unable to attend this year’s event due to a family wedding, he still entered a team in support of the Hospice, highlighting his ongoing commitment to helping our fundraising events succeed.
Celebration Dinner – Pennine Recruitment & Prosper Accountancy
We’re delighted to welcome Pennine Recruitment and Prosper Accountancy as joint Platinum Sponsors of our Celebration Dinner. Their support will help us deliver an evening dedicated to recognising the individuals, businesses and community groups who make such a difference to Hospice care across our region. Partnerships like these play an important role in ensuring events such as the Celebration Dinner continue to celebrate the people who help make our work possible.
Pontefract 10K – Community Support
Supporters of The Prince of Wales Hospice were out in force at this year’s Pontefract 10K, taking on the challenge while raising vital funds for local Hospice care. It was fantastic to see so many runners choosing to support the Hospice as part of their personal fundraising efforts, with every mile completed helping to make a difference for local patients and families. Events like the Pontefract 10K continue to demonstrate the incredible generosity and determination of our supporters.
Pontefract Superstore Opening
This month saw the official opening of our brand-new Pontefract Superstore, with members of the local community turning out in large numbers to support the launch. Shoppers, donors and supporters helped create a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day, alongside visits from the Town Crier, the Mayor of Wakefield and local busker Jake. The opening marked an exciting milestone for Hospice Retail, with more than £7,000 raised on the very first day thanks to the support of our customers, staff and volunteers.
Event Sponsorship – Hannah Davies Personal Estate Agent
As a local business, Hannah Davies Personal Estate Agent understands the important role community support plays in helping charities like ours continue their work. We are delighted that she have chosen to sponsor three of our 2026 fundraising events: Family Fun Day, Sunset Stroll and Elf Run. Support from businesses like Hannah’s helps us create engaging community events while ensuring more of the money raised can go directly towards supporting local patients and families.
Fyffes Donation
A recent donation from Fyffes provided a welcome boost across the Hospice, with a delivery of bananas shared among patients, families, staff, volunteers and supporters. Donations such as these may seem simple, but they help create moments of comfort and kindness throughout the Hospice and are always warmly appreciated by those who receive them.
Giving from the Art – Community Event
Supporters came together at Rogerthorpe Manor for Giving from the Art, a special fundraising event that raised an incredible £2,357.85 for the Hospice. Hosted by Gaynor Barnes, the evening featured an auction of generously donated artwork and attracted art lovers and Hospice supporters from across the community. The event was organised by Lynette Carlton, with support from Rogerthorpe Manor, Campsall Art Group, Sandra Openshaw and many others who donated artwork, attended the event or contributed to its success.
Robertson Group – Charity Football Support
Following a charity football match, Robertson Group / Robertson Facilities Management Wakefield presented the Hospice with a donation of £260. Their fundraising efforts not only generated valuable support for Hospice care but also provided an opportunity for members of the team to learn more about the services we provide. It was wonderful to hear about their visit and the positive impact it had on those involved.
Pontefract and District Breast Cancer Group – Teddy Bear Donation
Young family members visiting the Hospice will benefit from a thoughtful donation of teddy bears from the Pontefract and District Breast Cancer Group. The donation was arranged by our nurse Sandi after recognising the comfort that a simple teddy bear can provide to a child during what can often be a difficult and emotional time. These small acts of kindness can make a significant difference, helping children feel supported and providing reassurance when it is needed most.
