An experience that inspired Jonny to take on a half-marathon

19 March 2026

When Jonny first came to the Hospice on a student placement, he expected to focus on learning the practical skills of physiotherapy.

What he didn’t expect was how deeply the experience would stay with him.

During his placement, he saw the genuine compassion, patience, and dignity given to patients and their families every single day. It opened his eyes to what hospice care truly means, not just clinical support, but kindness, comfort, and a sense of calm at some of life’s hardest moments. That experience left a lasting impression.

Now, Jonny is giving something back.

This year, he’s taking on the Blackpool Half Marathon in support of our Hospice, his first-ever half-marathon! It’ll be quite the challenge for someone who normally sticks to sprinting 400 metres! But with determination (and a good pair of running shoes), he’s stepping out to help make a difference for local people.

We’re incredibly grateful for Jonny’s dedication. Thank you for every mile, every training run, and every bit of support you’re giving. We’ll be cheering you on the whole way.

If you’d like to support Jonny’s fundraising, you can visit his JustGiving page here, and if his story has inspired you, there are plenty of other ways to get involved, from joining one of our upcoming events to taking on your own challenge in support of the Hospice. Every step helps us continue caring for local people when they need us most. Visit pwh.org.uk/get-involved to learn more.
