Ahead of Lymphoedema Awareness Week, we caught up with Alison, who attends our Lymphoedema clinic here at the Hospice. In our candid chat, Alison tells us how our service has helped her feel normal again and boosted her body confidence. Read Alison's story here.


Barry was diagnosed with heart and lung disease five years ago, and this is his fifth stay on Incare after he blacked out the night before we spoke. The first time Barry was referred to the Hospice was back in April after a visit to a regular appointment in Sheffield, where he was told that palliative care was the best way forward. Paul and his wife Barbara, who is also Paul’s carer, attend Airedale Outreach on a weekly basis. Paul has also spent some time on our Incare ward and receives complimentary therapies at the Hospice. We caught up with Paul and Barbara at our recent Outreach beach themed day and found out all about the care he has received and how it has helped him. Read his story here.

When we were introduced to Malcolm and his wife Lyn, we couldn’t help but ask how long they’d been married, a whopping 48 years! After having a number of strokes, Malcolm struggles to communicate, so his wife helped him to tell his story. Read his story here.

We caught up with Gerry who attends our weekly Outreach group every Friday in Badsworth. Gerry and his wife Sandra were married for over 50 years; Sandra was cared for by the Hospice and sadly passed away on  1stAugust 2017.  We were privileged that Gerry offered to share his diary with us taking us on the journey of his wife’s care from the beginning to end.   Read his story here.

Heather was diagnosed with lobular cancer six years ago. Her spirits were high, as the Hospice were preparing for her to go home. Heather was admitted to our Incare ward before Christmas for symptom management. The team have worked with her to maintain her independence and now her condition has improved, we are thrilled she is able to go home. Read her story here.
