Bereavement Services

Welcome to the Prince of Wales Hospice emotional support service. We provide two services at the hospice for psychological support.

The Hospice after Care Support Service

When a love one passes away in the hospice all love ones are offered, with consent from them, to have a call one month after the bereavement.

What this consists of is:

A volunteer rings the consented love ones, to see if they would like any support. This support can be a space to talk to a trained active listener, whether this phone call may be enough to support them or additional services that can be helpful.

This service is only open to anyone who are using the hospice services.

Wakefield & District Bereavement Service

This is a service that any adult, who has been bereaved, longer than 4 months and lives in the Wakefield district can access.

Our trained bereavement active listeners are not counsellors, however they can provide a listening and non-judgmental space.  We would explore your needs, wants and support you to find alternative support, if needed.

This service is offering six sessions by telephone only. We currently are offering one to one sessions and do not have any groups running.

Please note if you do want to access this service, you are agreeing for us to put all information and data on system one, which is an online secured system that is used with the NHS.

Please contact self-refer by emailing bereavement.pwh@nhs.net or by phone 01977 781452.

Please note unless stated either by phone or email we will assume you give us consent to leave phone and/or email message.

Please note this is not an emergency support service and if you feel you are at risk at any point to self or others, please do ring 999 or go to A&E.

You can access support from the local mental health support line on 08001830558.
