Throughout April, we’ve continued to be inspired by the incredible support shown by our community, supporters, local businesses, and fundraisers.
Every donation, event, and challenge taken on in support of the Hospice helps us continue providing vital care and support to local people and their families. Here are some of this month’s highlights:
Blackpool Half Marathon – Jonny’s first half-marathon challenge
Jonny Pilkington took on his very first half-marathon in support of our Hospice after being inspired by his student placement here. During his time with us, Jonny saw firsthand the compassion and care provided to patients and families, something that stayed with him long after his placement ended. As a 400m runner, taking on 13.1 miles was a huge challenge, but one he was determined to complete for a cause close to his heart. We are incredibly grateful for his amazing effort and support for local Hospice care.
Garforth and District Lions Club – funding vital patient equipment
A huge thank you to Garforth and District Lions Club for their generous £1,000 donation towards patient care equipment at the Hospice. Their support has fully funded new chair scales for our patients, with remaining funds helping contribute towards a defibrillator. Donations like this make a real difference to the day-to-day care we provide, and we are so grateful for their continued support over the years, with more than £11,000 donated since 2000.
London Marathon – Roz runs in memory of Katie
Roz completed the London Marathon in support of our Hospice, running in memory of her cousin’s late wife, Katie Boyle, who was cared for here during her diagnosis of glioblastoma. Her marathon journey was a deeply personal tribute to Katie and her family, as well as a way to give back to the Hospice that supported them during such a difficult time. We are incredibly proud to have had Roz running in support of our care and carrying Katie’s memory with her every step of the way.
London Marathon – Lucy smashes her fundraising target
After winning our charity ballot place, Lucy Roper completed the London Marathon in an incredible 3 hours and 58 minutes while fundraising for our Hospice. Lucy ran in memory of her Grandad, who was cared for here, and wanted to give something back to a place that has meant so much to her family. She has already surpassed her £3,000 fundraising target, with donations still coming in, and we are so grateful for her fantastic support and determination.
Normanton Rotary Club – continued support for the Hospice
In March, we were delighted to welcome members of Normanton Rotary Club to the Hospice as they presented a generous £1,000 donation in support of our care. Ongoing community support like this plays such an important role in helping us continue supporting local people and families when they need us most. Thank you to everyone at Normanton Rotary Club for their kindness and commitment to our Hospice.
Scoot De Hospice – a fantastic community fundraiser
This year’s Scoot De Hospice once again brought together riders, supporters, and the local community for a brilliant day in support of our Hospice. Thanks to everyone who attended and took part, an amazing £500 was raised to support patient care. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Michelle’s Flowers Ltd for organising the event and helping make the day such a success.
Golf Day Sponsors – supporting Hospice events and care
We are incredibly grateful to Lagentium Insurance Brokers for becoming a Silver Sponsor of our Ison Harrison and The Prince of Wales Hospice Golf Day. Support from local businesses and sponsors helps make events like these possible while also supporting the vital care we provide to patients and families across our community.
Menzies Distribution – Platinum Sponsors of Sunset Stroll and Reindeer Run
We are delighted to announce our partnership with Menzies Distribution Solutions as Platinum Sponsors of both our Sunset Stroll and Reindeer Run events. Their support will help us continue providing vital care and support to local patients and families, and partnerships like this truly make a lasting difference to our Hospice.
Mumbai of Pontefract – a brilliant night of fundraising and community spirit
A huge thank you to Mumbai of Pontefract for hosting a fantastic charity night in support of our Hospice, where 10% of the evening’s takings raised an incredible £540. Guests enjoyed great food, live music, and a wonderful atmosphere, with special thanks also going to Raea Music for performing and helping make the evening so memorable. Events like this are a wonderful example of the community coming together to support local Hospice care.
Carleton Grange – Raising Over £1,000 for Patient Care
Carleton Grange Pontefract kindly held a charity evening in aid of us on Friday 13 March, raising an amazing £1,058.95 to support local hospice care. We’re so grateful to the team and everyone involved for their generosity and continued support.
