Dementia friendly hospice care in Wakefield

Supporting patients with dementia through tailored care and a compassionate approach.

What dementia friendly care looks like at our Hospice

We strive to support patients with dementia by creating an environment and care approach that reduces confusion and enhances comfort. This includes personalised communication tools, clear signage, training for our staff, and specialised room features that help orientate and reassure people with dementia.

Tools and adaptations we use

“This Is Me” Tool

Captures what matters to you so staff can personalise care.

Dementia Clocks

Larger clock faces that clearly show date and time of day.

Clear signage

Helps patients find toilets, showers and wardrobes easily.

Training and specialist support

Our team receive dementia-specific training to understand and meet the needs of patients with cognitive challenges. This helps ensure every interaction is patient-centred and compassionate.

Working with our community

We work alongside families and local partners. During a recent visit to the Hospice, John Jagger, from Doosan Babcock Energy, spoke to our Clinical Team about care for patients with dementia. He really connected with the issues and generously arranged for Doosan Babcock Energy to donate six special dementia clocks. John, and his team at Doosan Babcock Energy, have been fantastic supporters of the Hospice. This is just one of the ways to help our patients.
