Counselling and Bereavement Support in Wakefield

We offer a safe, supportive space for people to help them through serious illness, loss, or bereavement.

What support we offer

Our Wellbeing Counselling Service provides practical, emotional and individual therapeutic support, tailored to you. We offer counselling and listening sessions to people, and their loved ones, who meet our referral criteria, including people living with a terminal diagnosis. In addition, we provide bereavement counselling specifically for individuals who have had a connection with the Hospice and are experiencing loss or grief.

Counselling & Listening Service

We offer a friendly listening ear when you need support. Whether you’re dealing with a difficult diagnosis or simply feeling overwhelmed, our team is here for you.

  • Drop-In Sessions: These take place at various locations, (see the website). Or arrange to come to the Hospice for a friendly chat.
  • Counselling: Face-to-face or over the phone, our counselling sessions offer a safe, supportive environment to talk. Up to 10 sessions are available.
  • Daytime & Evening Appointments: We understand people’s lives are different, which is why we offer flexible counselling times, including some evening appointments.

Bereavement Support

We offer compassionate support for anyone who has experienced the death of someone who has been cared for by The Prince of Wales Hospice, either in our In-Patient unit or in the community. Our Bereavement Support is tailored to you, which could be individual and / or small group counselling to help you process grief in your own time and in your own way.

  • Bereavement listeners: Our trained listeners can offer support either face to face or over the telephone.
  • Bereavement counsellors (Trainee / Qualified): Provide 10 sessions either face to face or by phone.
  • Groups: We do have groups, so please refer to the Hospice website for updates.

  • Adults (18+) in the Five Towns / Wakefield area, who are living with a life-limiting diagnosis, or maybe experiencing isolation, or dealing with frailty conditions.
