On Saturday 6 December 2025, our Hospice will host the first of three Light Up a Life events, a cherished tradition of light, love, and remembrance. This year, the events will be held in Pontefract, Castleford, and Featherstone to make it easier for more people to join with their families and friends.
Light up a Life is more than an event – it’s a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate lives that have touched yours. These remembrance events welcome people of all faiths and none, offering comfort and connection during the festive season and reminding us that even in the darkest nights, love shines brightest.
“The event was a beautiful and heartfelt evening. Dedicating a light to my Dad was a deeply meaningful moment that honoured his memory in the most touching way,”
Location and time of the events:
- Pontefract Racecourse – Saturday 6 December, 3 pm: The new location offers both indoor and outdoor spaces, so the uplifting gathering with choir, heartfelt speeches, and a beautiful lighting ceremony can go ahead, whatever the weather.
- All Saints’ Church, Featherstone – Monday 8 December, 7:15 pm: A peaceful and intimate evening of reflection.
- Holy Cross Church, Castleford – Wednesday 10 December, 7 pm: A warm and welcoming space to remember and celebrate lives.
Lydia Puntas Salas, our Individual Giving Fundraiser at the Hospice, said: “Light up a Life is one of the most meaningful times of the year for our hospice and the communities we serve. It’s a chance to come together, share memories, and celebrate the lives of those who will always hold a place in our hearts. This year, we’re especially excited about our new location at Pontefract Racecourse, which offers both indoor and outdoor spaces. It means we can gather without worrying about the weather, ensuring nothing stops us from remembering loved ones in comfort and warmth.”
