Christine's story

Christine Bradley came to the Hospice after being discharged from Harrogate Hospital. She was encouraged to consider Hospice care by her family and the MacMillan nurses. Soon after arriving, she felt very relaxed in her private room with views over the beautiful gardens.

We caught up with Christine to tell us about her experience at our Hospice.

She said: “Compared with my time in hospital, the level of one-to-one care provided by The Prince of Wales Hospice is tremendous.  The doctors, nurses and all the support staff have been so friendly, supportive and attentive of both me and my family, in a professional and a personal way.  They have also been great at persuading me to accept help when I have not necessarily been receptive on first suggestion.”

Christine received complimentary massage treatments, which was a brand new experience, but one she found both relaxing and therapeutic. The Wellbeing team set up an afternoon tea for her family to enjoy, made by The Caring Kitchen. Christine’s visitors were able to order meals so they didn’t have to leave the Hospice, making the most of the visiting hours offered.

Christine added: “I have to admit, I’ve been missing my pets, but they are able to visit me, and in the meantime the Hospice has brought me one of their robotic cats, which is surprisingly life-like and I’m enjoying its company.”
