What Olivia enjoys most is seeing the real difference hospice care can make.
Olivia joined The Prince of Wales Hospice in August and has now been part of the team for almost seven months as our Deputy Nurse Manager.
Before joining us, Olivia worked with a specialist palliative care team in the Wakefield community and was already familiar with the Hospice and the work we do.
For Olivia, what she enjoys most is seeing the real difference hospice care can make. “It’s extremely fulfilling. I feel like I’m making a difference, and I can see the change in people,” she says. She also values the team she works with. “I love working with the whole Hospice team. I’ve never worked with nicer people, and it’s eye-opening to see everyone work together so well.”
When asked what she would say to someone considering a role at the Hospice, Olivia is enthusiastic.
You absolutely should work here. I feel supported by everyone I work with. It’s a more personal place to work. You work around everyone all the time, which is nice to be so close-knit, and everyone works well together.
One memorable moment that reflects our values comes from the heart of her role. “It’s impossible to pick just one,” Olivia says. “It’s so rewarding when people arrive thinking they are at end-of-life care, and we help manage their symptoms and get them to a point where they are able to go home. The smile you see when patients realise this makes it all worth it.”
Olivia’s experience shows the impact of compassionate care and the power of a team working closely together to make a real difference for patients and families.
