Meet Lily – Fundraising Volunteer at The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract

5 January 2026

Our volunteers are an essential part of the Hospice. We’re so grateful for everything they do. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Lily, one of our amazing fundraising volunteers. We honestly don’t know what we’d do without her!

From writing thank-you letters and packing supporter packs to helping out at events, Lily throws herself into everything with energy and enthusiasm. She recently completed a fundraising apprenticeship while working at a fundraising consultancy firm. With four busy days at work, Lily wanted to make her fifth day count. So, she chose to volunteer with us.

Lily first heard about volunteering through a colleague who used to work here. Having supported The Prince of Wales Hospice through her job, she knew it would be the perfect fit.

“It’s an opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and give back locally. One day I’m writing thank-you letters. Next, I’m standing on a golf course promoting the Hospice!”

Lily

Fundraising has always been part of Lily’s life. Her mum runs a non-profit community hub, so she grew up helping at events and meeting charities. Even so, this is her first official volunteering role. She loves the variety and the chance to make a difference.

“I’ve just completed my fundraising apprenticeship. Now I do lots of project support for charity clients running events and campaigns. Volunteering here opens your eyes to new things. It’s fun. You meet new people. You gain new skills.”

Our fundraising team agrees: “She’s a whizz! No matter what you ask Lily, she’s always willing to get stuck in and help.”

We’re so thankful to Lily for her commitment and passion. She’s a brilliant example of how volunteering benefits both the Hospice and the volunteers themselves.
