Ackworth Pram Race Success!
After months of planning, Ackworth Pram Race was a roaring success once again this year, with more teams taking part than ever before!

On the 29th August, 15 teams took to the streets of Ackworth in fancy dress, including the Hospice’s own team, The Blister Sisters.

Stopping for a pint at four local pubs on the way, the teams raced through Ackworth in hopes of winning the first place trophy – and of course, to raise money for the Hospice.

Locals lined the streets all the way up to the finishing line, waiting to cheer the teams on as they hurried by (looking rather exhausted!)

The winning team, Holy Guacamole, took first place early on and managed to beat the other teams to the finish line, dressed in sombreros and sporting the Mexcian flag. They were closely followed by Little Swimmers, two young men dressed in some explicit pink hot pants. We hope they weren’t too cold!

One team member from Holy Guacamole said the race route was ‘really hard work’, but commended Little Swimmers for being hot on their heels.

When the race was done, the celebrations begun! The grounds of Ackworth Cricket Club were filled with stalls, bouncy castles, children’s rides and food trucks, ready for an entire evening of family fun and live music.

Rich Whiting, Hospice supporter and ex-rugby player, took part in the race with his daughter, Paige, dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. He said;

‘The race was good and we plan on taking part next year too, although we’ll be using a pram with back wheels! My arms were killing me after lifting the wheelbarrow up.

‘My wife and son followed us on the route to support us, and it was nice to spend time together as a family at the cricket club, taking part in the games and listening to the music.’

Thank you to all the teams who took part in Ackworth Pram Race 2021 in support of the Hospice, and to everyone who came out to celebrate with us!
