Our dedicated Wellbeing Team offers a comprehensive range of services designed to support patients, carers, and families within the Five Towns area of Wakefield District, and they have the skills and experience to give vital support and comfort.
In this blog, we’ll explore the activities and group sessions available that aim to maximise quality of life and promote holistic wellbeing.
1. One-to-one or small-group support for family and carers
Caring for a loved one can be both rewarding and challenging. If you want to receive support and practical advice, you can speak to one of our experienced Wellbeing Team, either one-on-one or in small groups. This can be throughout the week, including in the evenings if you cannot make it in the daytime. We also offer support by telephone if this is better for you. Booking is required, so call us to organise a time.
2. Coffee & Chat Drop-In
Mondays, 1:00–3:00 PM at Featherstone Library
Tuesdays, 1:00–3:00 PM at Notcutts Victoria Garden Centre
Join us for a casual coffee and chat drop-in session where you can meet our Wellbeing Team, enjoy a hot beverage, and engage in peer support. Whether you’re seeking information about our services or simply looking for a friendly conversation, our team is here to welcome you with open arms. No booking is required; just drop by and say hello.
3. Complementary Therapy Group
Tuesdays, 2:00–3:00 PM at The Prince of Wales Hospice
Experience the benefits of complementary therapy in a supportive group setting. Our Complementary Therapy Group offers sessions designed to promote relaxation and symptom management, addressing issues such as stress, poor sleep, anxiety, and pain. Led by our specialist Complementary Therapist, these sessions provide a soothing oasis of calm amidst life’s challenges. Booking is required; reserve your spot today.
4. Wellbeing Information Sessions
Wednesdays, 10:00–11:30 AM at The Prince of Wales Hospice
Empower yourself with knowledge and practical tips to enhance your wellbeing. Our Wellbeing Information Sessions cover a range of topics, from future planning and benefits advice to managing breathlessness and nutrition. 5. Bathing Service
Wednesday Afternoons at The Prince of Wales Hospice
Maintain your personal wellbeing with our bathing service, offering a relaxing bathing experience in a supportive environment. Whether you require assistance from a carer or our dedicated staff, our bathing service prioritises your privacy, dignity, and comfort. Available once every two weeks for a small charge, this service promotes physical and emotional wellbeing. Booking is required.
6. Walking for Wellbeing
Thursdays, 11.00 AM –12:00 PM starting at the lake at Pontefract Racecourse
Get moving and enjoy the benefits of social walking for your physical and mental wellbeing. Our Walking for Wellbeing sessions welcome participants of all abilities, with wheelchair-accessible routes available. Join us for a refreshing walk in nature, where you can connect with others and boost your mood in a supportive group environment. Booking is required; lace up your walking shoes and join us.
7. Chair Exercises
Thursdays, 1:30–2:30 PM at Your Space, Pontefract
Stay active and improve physical function with our chair exercise sessions. Led by our experienced instructors, these fun and engaging sessions provide a gentle workout for participants of all abilities. Whether you’re recovering from illness or simply looking to stay active, our chair exercises offer a supportive environment for enhancing your overall wellbeing. 8. Craft Group
Fridays, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at The Prince of Wales Hospice
