VE Day Celebration

A care home has hosted one big event on VE Day to raise money for our Hospice.

Jackie Storey, the owner of JS care homes in South Elmsall, put on a big event with many activities with her team, to raise money for The Prince of Wales Hospice and Wakefield Hospice.

The events spread across the care homes and included garden parties, cake baking competitions between the five homes, with three of the residents judging, bounce and shoot out and feather the manager.

The staff organised to do many events and encouraged the residents to become involved. Some staff even took part in head shaving and pie slam events.

The residents sang on the karaoke and during the week prior to the event, helped to prepare by making flags, posters and painting garden furniture.

Jackie said: “ It has had a positive impact on peoples mood… we are over whelmed by the response from the community in donating and sponsoring our residents in the fun day event when they themselves will be struggling.”

The team raised £5,000 so far and the money will be split between both hospices.

She also said: “One of our resident wants to plan an event in a pub next year, he is very popular and well known in the community, he likes to sing with the local acts, the event really uplifted his mood and gave him a sense of purpose."

From all of us here at The Prince of Wales Hospice, we thank Jackie, her team and the residents from the bottom of our hearts for all their help and we look forward to hearing about the future event.
