The largest donation through a Facebook fundraising page - Amanda Armer’s story
Our supporters have raised thousands through their Facebook fundraiser pages to care for local patients at the Hospice, but in December 2021, we received the largest donation from a Facebook fundraising page to date.

Amanda Armer set up a fundraising page after her stay at our Hospice, and raised over £4,000 in less than two weeks.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in November, Amanda was given only six months to live. From the hospital, she was referred to the Hospice’s specialist care to manage the symptoms of her illness and to provide pain relief.

On her Facebook fundraising page, Amanda wrote about her stay in the Hospice:

‘The support myself and my family received was amazing. They helped me medically, emotionally and mentally. They were always willing to listen, talk, or just sit and hold my hand, even at 2 am. I cannot thank them enough.’

After a week of care in the Hospice, Amanda’s symptoms were manageable. She was able to return home with her husband, Andrew, and their two children.

Andrew said he felt privileged to be able to look after Amanda, and grateful to the Hospice for making it possible for her to stay at home. They cherished the time together, watching old family videos and Netflix in bed.

The couple were ‘blown away’ by the generosity their friends and family had shown in donating such an incredible amount to Amanda’s fundraising page. Andrew said:

‘We were amazed at how many people donated, but it shows how loved she was. Amanda was wonderful. She worked with special needs children, sponsored children in India to go to school, and supported our church.”

Sadly, on 28 December 2021, Amanda passed away at home, at the age of 45. Although her family suffered a devastating loss, they remain proud of Amanda and what she managed to achieve during the most difficult time.

Those who knew Amanda continued to donate to the Hospice, raising a further £500 in a collection box at her funeral.

We would like to thank Amanda, her family and her friends for their continued support of the Hospice. Your generosity will help us to continue to provide the loving care our patients need.
