The Inside Scoop: Thinking Differently

Three of our CCEO and our Quality Lead were at the Hospice UK conference which took place 6 - 8 November, which was all about ‘thinking differently’. The conference started with a brilliant key note speech from Professor Chris Whitty. He clearly set out the challenge to the sector on how improvements in medicine along with population demographics will mean an aging population over the next few decades, and how as a society we need to start thinking differently now to support this.
 
There were talks on frailty and how a holistic approach, something Hospices do so well, can improve outcomes for patients. There was lot on how we can use our data to inform our services, improve our sustainability and how AI (Artificial Intelligence) can help Hospices.
 
Other sessions focused on staffing and staff wellbeing, working collaboratively as well as looking after our all-important supporters, who we rely on for so much of our funding.
 
With time to look round the good practice of other hospices and network with colleagues from around the country, they headed back to the Hospice with lots of ideas and feeling inspired.
