Simon Speight - The Hospice supporter who aims to inspire
Simon Speight has been raising money since 2021 for the Hospice ever since he saw the service we provide up close after his sister Anita was cared for by our dedicated team. He has raised over £3,000 already and has no plans to slow down yet.

Simon said: “I started raising funds for The Prince of Wales Hospice after witnessing first-hand the love and care they provided to my sister who sadly left us on 30 April 2021, after only seven weeks from being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. From that moment I wanted to ensure others benefit from the same loving care when they need it most.”

Simon began running for charity with his wife Rachael in 2021, and started off by running 10K every day for 10 days. He then went on to complete the Pontefract 10k and signed up for the Great North Run but his training was halted when his life was turned upside down after being diagnosed with Pancreatitis. This led to other critical conditions and a long stay in Hospital and an even longer recovery.

He was determined to lace up his running shoes again and was able to defer his Great North Run place to 2022. Between April and September this year, Simon completed the Pontefract 10k, the Doncaster half marathon and even took part in our challenge event, the Yorkshire 3 peaks with his wife, Rachael.

On Sunday, 11 September 2022, Simon completed the Great North Run in 2 hrs and 30 minutes. An incredible achievement!

Simon’s next challenge is his big one, the Marathon. If you would like to read about his journey and support him, visit his website www.arfapanc.com.
