Remembering Dr. George Ward
In March this year we gathered together to say farewell to one of our great supporters - Dr George Ward. George has been involved with the Hospice since around 1988.

As a General Practitioner he worked in partnership with the late Dr Robert Forster and when Robert took on the part time voluntary post of Medical Director at the Hospice, George was by his side on many occasions. Both Robert and George were part of the first Council of Management and greatly assisted the Hospice to move forward in terms of clinical care.

As time moved on to the end of the last century, the need for clinical care required the appointment of specialist Physicians and both Robert and George were active in helping this new process to take shape. When the Council of Management ended and the registration of Trustees came into being, George continued to be involved with the Hospice as a Trustee - one of his specific roles being to handle the ‘Flower Fund’  and the contributions to the Book of Remembrance. On one occasion when the former Prince of Wales visited, there was George to share some thoughts with him!

George attended many events in support of the Hospice along with his wife, Christine, and when a new Trustee Board was formed around 2006/2007, George stood down but still continued to attend Hospice events. He was granted the position of Honorary Life Member and he maintained links at various events and he always attended the meetings of Patrons and Honorary Life Members, held at the Hospice each year. Whenever he was able, he attended the Staff and Volunteer Awards evenings with Christine, to celebrate those being recognised for their long service. George and Christine were also regular supporters for the Hospice at Featherstone Methodist Church where each year there were two fundraising concerts – one with a brass band and one with a Male Voice Choir. We are so grateful for their generous support over many, many years and for Christine’s continuation of her volunteering.

Farewell, and thank you George, for all the support you have given to The Prince of Wales Hospice. Your legacy of care will live on!
