Margaret’s afternoon tea experience at The Prince of Wales Hospice
Hospice care is everything you'd expect and everything you wouldn't. At our Hospice, we believe in creating meaningful moments for our patients and their families. One of the ways we do this is through our afternoon tea experience, which one of our patients, Margaret and her family have recently enjoyed.

Margaret was born down the road on Halfpenny Lane where the Hospice stands. Now a resident in a care home, she was admitted to our Incare ward for pain and symptom management. She has been receiving care for the past three weeks.

Margaret has always been a tea lover, and our Wellbeing Support Worker, Jenny, knew exactly how to bring her a little joy. Jenny suggested an afternoon tea experience, allowing Margaret and her family to share a special time over tea and delicious treats in the beautiful Garden Room.

Jenny said: ”The afternoon tea experience at our Hospice offers patients and their loved ones the opportunity to step away from their daily routines and enjoy quality time together. It’s more than just tea – it’s a chance to chat and create beautiful memories.”

Margaret’s family visits her every day. They found the afternoon tea a wonderful way that made their visit extra special. Her daughter, Andrea, said: "Mum is a big tea drinker, so when Jenny suggested we have afternoon tea together, I thought it was a wonderful idea. It’s so nice to have some family time together and to get outside the room into another environment."

Margaret’s son-in-law, John, also shared his appreciation, describing the staff as "lovely, kind, and always willing to help."

Jenny added: “Our afternoon tea experience is just one example of how we go beyond medical care to create moments of happiness for our patients and their families. Whether it’s enjoying a favourite drink or simply spending time together in a peaceful setting, we strive to make every day as comforting and enjoyable as possible.”
