Good luck Michelle!
The fabulous Michelle Grainger, local florist and Hospice Patron has added another award nomination to her belt and it’s easy to see why! We are thrilled to announce that Michelle has been short-listed for the Community Foundation’s Unsung Heroes Awards after raising a massive £96,855 for our Hospice.

The Unsung Heroes Awards, which take place at Cedar Court Hotel on 1 October, will celebrate members of the local community who have made remarkable contributions through their charitable work.

All of the nominated Unsung Heroes will be awarded with a certificate and trophy in recognition of their achievement, as well as two complimentary tickets for an evening out. Out of those nominated, three will be selected for a category award, which include the ‘People’s Choice Award’ and ‘Overall Winner Award’.

The Hospice’s fundraising team nominated Michelle this year in recognition of ten years of unwavering support, in memory of her dad, who sadly died at the Hospice in 2005.

Talking about her experience, Michelle said;

‘I first wanted to support the Hospice because of our experience, and the help we received caring for my Dad. We wanted to give something back. I wanted to help everyone else to see it how we see it; A place for everyone and their families, who need support with terminal illness. Somewhere that is dignified, peaceful and friendly.’
Michelle’s fundraising achievements include creating much loved events such as Festive Florals and Ponte Dance, and of course her ‘Nifty at Fifty’ fundraising campaign.

Back in 2019, Michelle dedicated an entire year to fundraising for the Hospice in celebration of her 50th birthday. Her ‘Nifty at fifty’ campaign saw her complete 50 weird and wonderful challenges, to celebrate her fifty years, in a bid to raise £30,000 for the Hospice. Challenges included shaving her head, getting a tattoo and taking on the world’s longest zip wire! Michelle excels in everything she does, and managed to exceed her target, raising £45,844.

Talking about Michelle’s support, Diane Peters at The Prince of Wales Hospice said;

‘Michelle is an inspiration and we are so proud of her for her nomination. Michelle is the most selfless person and her energy, passion and enthusiasm is infectious! We are so grateful for everything Michelle does for the Hospice, and we wish her every luck in the awards. She truly deserves to win, in recognition of the amazing work she does and her contribution to our community.’

We have everything crossed for Michelle and we’re sure you do too! Make sure you keep your eyes peeled on our page for more details on how to vote for Michelle.
