Getting the miles in, whatever the weather!
A group of 36 gym-goers in Pontefract aim to run 500 miles each in 2021 – and they want you to get involved too!

Xceed Fitness owner and the creator of this challenge, James Price, and 35 other fitness fanatics have challenged themselves to run a collective of 18,450 miles over the course of this year, come rain or shine. He wanted a fundraiser that would put everyone to the test – we think this should do the trick!

Each runner is aiming to complete nine miles per week, battling the recent heatwaves and rainstorms, to raise money for the Hospice. Keeping tabs on each challenger’s progress through a spreadsheet, the group are determined to reach their goal.

Most of the group are motivated by a connection to the Hospice through family or friends – James shared his reasons for taking on this massive challenge;

‘My dad was in the Hospice for end of life care. The comfort, support and level of care the Hospice gave was incredible. I feel forever in debt to the Hospice for helping my family through this tough time and want to ensure the Hospice is there to support anyone that needs it.’

Although the group is large in number, they want to see even more supporters get involved! On 22nd August at 9:30am, the Xceed Fitness members are holding a ‘Fun Run’ at Pontefract Park where visitors can join the team in fancy dress and run alongside them.

With some superheroes expected to assemble, James said the event is a great chance to get together, have some fun and hopefully raise even more money.

James thanks everyone who have already sponsored the Xceed team, and encourages other to take on a challenge for the Hospice;

‘Set yourself something that is going to physically strain you, mentally challenge you and force you to earn the sponsorships. You will come out of a challenge a stronger, more appreciative person guaranteed.’

‘It is cliché but every penny counts. It all adds up and keeps the Hospice going. Thank you for sponsoring, thank you for sharing social media posts and thank you for words of support.’

We wish every member of the group the best of luck in completing their miles!
