Fundraising highlights: October's incredible community support
As always, our community has overwhelmed us with their tremendous support in October. We want to say thank you to everyone who attended events and helped raise the vital funds for our Hospice.

Here are some highlights from October:

Fun Dog Show
Canine Capabilities and Michelle Grainger, our Patron, organised a Fun Dog Show in Featherstone that raised £600 for us. This was a great event that had lots of different categories the dogs could win, including Cutest Puppy, Most Endearing Eyes, Best Sausage Catcher, Waggiest Tail, The Dog the Judge Most Wants to Take Home, and – of course – Best in Show.

Michelle wrote on social media: “Well, what can I say? A massive thank you to everyone and their beautiful dogs who turned out in the rain for our charity Dog Show.”

Community Entertainment Association
The Community Entertainment Association, based at the Horse & Jockey pub in Altofts, presented us with a cheque for £1,000. They have been fundraising for us since 1993, and have raised a staggering £28,563 in that time.

Richard Gunther
Richard Gunther and his friends took on the Total Warrior challenge at Bramham Park. This was in memory of Richard’s wife, Sharon, a patient at the Hospice who sadly died six months ago. They managed to raise £750 for us.

Friday Revival
Friday Revival raised £452 for us during their annual curry night at Tulsi Restaurant. Ridley & Hall Solicitors, one of the supporting partners for Friday Revival, said: “It was a great atmosphere, fabulous cuisine and first-class service from Koyes and his team.”

In total, Friday Revival have raised nearly £5,000 for us. This has gone towards a new Incare bed and marquee, and they are now fundraising for a new reclining chair as part of our chair appeal.

Nike
NIKE, at Junction 32, have donated £2,460 to the Hospice over the past year from their matched funding scheme. For every hour a NIKE employee volunteers in the community, NIKE donates $10 to their chosen charity, with most of the staff at the Junction 32 store selecting our Hospice.

Wakefield District Cycle Forum
Wakefield District Cycle Forum used their Wonders of Wakefield ride on the 6 October to commemorate their colleague Bob Newton. Bob died in the Hospice last October, and his family are grateful for the love and support the whole family received here.

Those riding in the Wonders of Wakefield were asked to make a donation to the Hospice, and this raised £211.

Portobello Craft and Camera Group
Bob Clayden and Robin Gledhill from Portobello Craft and Camera Group kindly donated £260 to the Hospice, along with some vintage cameras and camera equipment.

Liam Watts’ Golf Day
Castleford Tigers allowed us to attend Liam Watts’ Golf Day at Darrington Golf Club on 14 October. It was great to be in attendance with our Wheel of Misfortune and to be a part of Liam Watts's testimonial. We managed to raise an amazing £410!

Jonathan Lindley
Jonathon Lindley completed the Yorkshire Coast 10k in memory of his wife, Emma, who sadly died in 2017 at just 36 years old. Emma was cared for at the Hospice, and Jonathan praised the Hospice for the care provided to his family:

“The Hospice staff looked after our family and couldn’t do any more to support us whilst Emma was a patient. They even brought in an extra bed so we could have a family movie night together, providing popcorn and snacks for the children.”

Jonathan, who only took up running in January, raised an incredible £621 in memory of Emma. Fighting the headwind around Marine Drive, he finished with a time of 1:19:29. He said: “It was a very wet and windy day, but it was a great day and I enjoyed it!”
