Castleford Tigers visit for Easter egg competition
The Hospice patients and their families were given a treat when players from Castleford Tigers visited to take part in an Easter egg decorating competition.

The players Alex Mellor, Danny Richardson, Jack Broadbent and Sam Wood came along and were in excellent spirits. As would be expected with professional sports players, they were very competitive about wanting to win first prize in the Easter egg competition.

The judging panel, led by Jo Benson, the Hospice’s Nurse Manager, deemed Mellor to be the winner. He delighted in his victory, holding the winning egg in the air like a trophy.

Afterwards, the players visited patients and enjoyed chatting with them and their families. One patient they visited was Mary Hewitt, who was presented with the winning egg. She was very pleased to see them and promised to look out for them the next time she saw the Tigers playing on TV.

Afterwards, Mary said: “They’ve brightened up my day. It really bucks you up to remember that people care. My son’s a big Cas Tigers fan, so he’ll be so jealous I got to meet them.”

Jo Benson from the Hospice said: “Thanks so much to the Cas Tigers for the visit. The lads got into the spirit of the afternoon and showed their creative sides with the Easter egg decorations. The patients got a real boost from the visit, so we appreciate them giving us their time.”
