18 December 2025

On Thursday 4 December 2025, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Mr. Ed Anderson, visited our Hospice in Pontefract to recognise and highlight the essential care the Hospice provides for people living with life-limiting illnesses.

The visit offered an opportunity to showcase the hospice’s specialist services and the dedication of our team, supporting patients and families across the Five Towns area of Wakefield District. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration and community involvement in sustaining essential care.

During the tour, the Lord Lieutenant learned about the hospice’s range of services, including 24-hour specialist care on the Incare ward, wellbeing support, and bereavement services. Discussions also highlighted ongoing initiatives to enhance patient experience and strengthen community partnerships.

He also spent time with patients, hearing directly about the difference compassionate hospice care can make to someone’s life. One patient shared, “It’s a place where the best is done to help you in this difficult time,” reflecting that the hospice feels like a safe, supportive haven for so many.

Lindsay Hamer our Director of People and Culture said: “We were honoured to welcome the Lord Lieutenant to our hospice. This visit was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the impact of our work and the commitment of our team to providing compassionate care.”
