Laughter and singing filled the Hospice this December as four classes from three local schools in Pontefract shared the joy of Christmas through carols old and new.
Students from Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School, Carleton Park Junior and Infants School, and Larks Hill Junior and Infant School – all members of the Pontefract Academies Trust – visited the Hospice over three days. They filled every corner of the Hospice with festive cheer, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere for patients, families, and staff. Performances featured a mix of traditional carols and festive favourites such as Jingle Bells and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, which had everyone smiling and singing along.
This annual tradition has become a highlight for the Hospice, offering moments of connection and joy at a time that can be difficult for many. The children’s performances brought celebration and a sense of community to the Hospice.
“What an absolute joy it is to see all those smiling faces singing to us. It is just marvellous.”
Steph Gillis, our Director of Clinical Services, reflected: “Seeing the children perform is something everyone in our Hospice looks forward to. Their energy and enthusiasm reminds us about kindness, togetherness, and hope at a time that can be difficult. Everyone commented on their enthusiasm and how lovely it was to hear and see them singing and dancing”
Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School said: “We are incredibly proud and happy as a school to continue working so closely in partnership with The Prince of Wales Hospice, to support such a wonderful and meaningful cause. Once again, it has been truly heart-warming to see choirs from across the school visit the Hospice to sing Christmas carols and songs, bringing comfort and joy to patients. Long may this powerful and valued relationship continue, and we wish everyone at The Prince of Wales Hospice a very Merry Christmas.”
The partnership between Pontefract Academies Trust and the Hospice continues to strengthen community ties, giving students the chance to make a real difference while learning the importance of compassion and giving back.
