Ethan's appeal helps Hospice future!
Nine year old Ethan Mellor has gone above and beyond this year to boost Hospice funds in memory of his beloved grandad, who was cared for on our Incare ward.

Ethan’s fundraising journey began when he tackled our Pen-Y-Ghent Family Challenge, raising over £1000 in sponsorships!

When our fundraising team saw how passionate Ethan was about raising money for local patients, they knew he would be the perfect supporter to help with the next appeal.

With the help of Legacy Fundraiser, Anne Giblin, Ethan wrote a letter asking supporters to consider leaving a gift to the Hospice in their will.

In the letter, Ethan wrote:
I want to make sure that the Hospice is still here when I am a grown up, so that if I ever need their help, I can be looked after just like my Grandad was. Can you help me?
I’m not really sure what leaving a gift in your will means, but I do know that it will help the Hospice in the future. You don’t need to climb a mountain like me, but you can do your bit to make sure the people you love can stay at the Hospice if they need it.

Thanks to Ethan’s heart-felt letter, the Hospice received a staggering amount of donations totalling £6,661, with many other supporters saying they intended to remember the Hospice in their will.

Ethan was delighted with the response to his letter. Anne said, “Ethan is an amazing young boy who has first-hand experience of the care delivered by the Hospice team, and his appeal had fantastic results.

“Gifts in wills currently fund the care of one in four of our patients, and we rely on them to make sure our wonderful care continues in the future.”

Ethan plans to continue fundraising for the Hospice, and we can’t wait to see what this incredible boy does next!
