Challenge complete - To Preston and back again!

Between Thursday 15th and Friday 16th July, six determined cyclists from TotalEnergies in Ferrybridge tackled a 160 mile cycling challenge in aid of our Hospice!

Enduring ten hours in the saddle each day, Team Total endured steep hills and hot weather on their journey to their plant in Preston and back.

With lots of encouragement, plenty of water and a supply of bananas, all six riders managed to complete the challenge – with only a few scrapes and bruises – taking in some fantastic scenery along the way!

Riding along sedate canals and paths over the beautiful Pennines, Team Total took this gruelling challenge in their stride.

The team showed great team spirit, boosting each other all the way. Patrick, a Team Total rider, isn’t too sure how much saying “this is the last hill today lads” really helped, but enjoyed their Friday morning ice-cream stop!

The cyclists were met at both Preston and Ferrybridge with cold drinks and snacks to recover from the tiring trip.

Although their journey was tough, Patrick still recommends others to do their own fitness fundraisers, and has some tips for those considering a cycling challenge;

‘Make sure you are slightly mad and have a few cycling miles in your legs before taking on the challenge, and always have a domestique!

‘Challenges like this are great for raising money for worthwhile causes such as The Prince of Wales Hospice, they get you out and about and keep you fit and healthy. The camaraderie of the event was fantastic and you learn things about people you never knew!’
