Nifty at fifty Michelle, hits half way target!

Thursday, 8 August 2019

Michelle of Michelle’s Flowers in Pontefract kicked off her year long campaign back in February, where she pledged to complete 50 challenges to celebrate her 50th birthday year to raise £30,000 for the Hospice.

Talking about why she supports the Hospice, Michelle said; "I first wanted to support the Hospice because of our experience, and the help we received caring for my Dad. We wanted to give something back. I wanted to help everyone else to see it how we see it; A place for everyone and their families, who need support with terminal illness. Somewhere that is dignified, peaceful and friendly."

July was a busy month for Michelle, she put on a fashion show, dyed her hair blue, braved a head shave, got a tattoo behind her ear of her businesses flower logo and put on a flower demonstration workshop at the Hospice. This incredible month of fundraising has not only seen Michelle hit the half way mark, but exceed it! Her fundraising total currently sits at £17,000.

Talking about her fundraising, Michelle said; "Everyone is shocked to see me with a shaved head, I’ve had so many people say how brave I am for doing it, I don’t know why, it’s only hair and it’s helped me to smash the half way target for the Hospice! The support and generosity of people in our community is incredible. Everyone has come together to support me, whether it’s attending an event I’ve put on, sponsoring me for a challenge, or donating their star jars of loose change."

Michelle’s next challenge is to host the popular annual event, Ponte Dance on Saturday 10 August, which she has organised with the support of the Pontefract Scooter Club. Get ready to rock, roll, boogie and jive at Pontefract Town Hall. With live bands, a DJ and raffle and much more there’s plenty to keep you on your toes. Tickets are on sale now at Michelle’s Flowers in Pontefract.
