Band concert success

Monday, 20 May 2019

Our Community Fundriser, Becki, recently attended a meeting at the The Rotary Club of Normanton, where she was presented with a cheque of £1,000 from a recent event which had been held in aid of our Hospice. Becki was privileged to meet past Rotary District Governor, Rotarian Bass Ikoku PHF, who many years ago, was one of the original instigators for a Hospice to be built in this area. We are thrilled to tell you a little bit more about the event below, and wish to thank all involved for their fantastic fundraising efforts.

The Yorkshire Volunteers Band and Corps of Drums held a band concert in the Normanton Baptist Church on Saturday the 30th March 2019, jointly organised by Inner Wheel member Janet Abson and Rotarian Ian James, assisted by members of the Inner Wheel and Rotary clubs of Normanton, with all proceeds in aid of The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract and Dementia UK.

Amongst the attendees were the Mayor of Normanton Councillor Denton Jones, Dr Ruth Roche, Board Trustee of The Prince of Wales Hospice and Ms Jackie Craven, Volunteer Ambassador for Dementia UK.

The Rotary Club of Normanton, would like to thank the following for their involvement:

"We would like to sincerely thank all who participated in making this a successful event, particularly the Yorkshire Volunteers Band and Corps of Drums, under the baton of their Musical Director D. Ritchie Howard, for their willingness once again to assist us in raising funds for the charities mentioned and the members of the Normanton Baptist Church for hosting this event and making us all feel welcome in their premises. A special “thank you” to the church members who assisted with the provision of the refreshments for everyone during the interval and our thanks to all persons who kindly donated prizes for the fund raising raffle which added significantly to the total sum which was raised.

We would also like to place on record our gratitude to local estate agent Stephen Abson and Rotarian John Wilson who generously agreed to sponsor the band."
