Eligibility

At The Prince of Wales Hospice we have a 13 bedroom Incare ward.

Eligibility for referral to our specialist palliative care services is based on patient need not diagnosis: 

• The patient has active, progressive and usually advanced disease for which the prognosis is limited and the focus of care is quality of life. Patients with malignant or non-malignant disease are eligible for Hospice care including patients with cancer, chronic lung or heart disease or a neurological disease, for example motor neurone disease. 
   

• The patient has unresolved complex needs that cannot be met by their current health care proffessionals. These may physical, psychological, social and emotional. 

The catchment area for patients is the Five Towns area of Wakefield District including Pontefract, Knottingley, Castleford, Featherstone and Normanton plus Hemsworth, South Elmsall and South Kirkby. But we also consider referrals from out of region.

We also care for people with lymphoedema through our three clinics based at the Hospice in Pontefract, Wakefield Hospice and the Rosewood Centre based in the grounds of Dewsbury and District Hospital.

Our Wellbeing Programme is for patients as well as everyone in our community, who could benefit from social support from others in a similar situation. 

We provide bereavement services to families and carers for psychological support.
