People volunteer for many different reasons. Some have a connection with the hospice through family members and friends we have cared for, some wish to give something back to their community and others come to strengthen their CV by developing new skills.

Our volunteers are of all ages and come from a variety of backgrounds. No matter what the reason, volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people and to support your local charity.

Bereavement Support Volunteer

Could you make a difference to our bereaved relatives? Join our dedicated team of Bereavement Support Volunteers, with full training and support provided.

Cafe Assistant

We have volunteering vacancies to assist our café Manager to run the Caring Kitchen based in Pontefract indoor market in the morning on any day Monday to Saturday. This role would best suit someone with a cheerful personality with good communication skills and who can work well in a team.

Catering Volunteer

Volunteers work in a small busy team to help prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold meals for patients, visitors, staff and volunteers.  Catering volunteers also help out with washing up and cleaning duties.  No special skills are required.  All new volunteers are given an induction when they start along with on the job training and supervision to help them settle into their role.

Collecting tin agent

Come and join our fundraising team and be an ambassador for the Hospice with companies that support us. This role would suit someone who is organised and able to keep a rota of sites to be maintained and accurate records of stocks distributed to sites.

If you are good at making the first contact with potential new community supporters, businesses and venues for bag packing, Hospice talks, gifts in kind and more this role would suit you.

Day Therapy Volunteers and Drivers

Volunteers are especially sought to work alongside our nursing teams in Day Therapy on Thursday each week. This may involve assisting with activities such as crafts, baking, gardening and also assisting patients with meals from approximately 10am until 3pm. We also require drivers to drive our ambulance to pick up and drop off patients from their homes to attend Day Therapy at the Hospice. All drivers are accompanied by a member of our nursing team.

Fundraising volunteers group member

This role involves playing an active part in our friendly Fundraising and Volunteers Group and also fundraising in the community by organising and running initiatives such as stalls, tombolas, bag-packing and raffles.

We are looking for keen gardeners to volunteer to assist in maintaining the Hospice's extensive gardens and grounds.

Kitchen Assistant

Could you spare a few hours a week on any day, Monday to Sunday to help our catering team keep our kitchen dishes, cutlery and crockery clean and be able to assist with other general kitchen duties.
