2.6 Challenge

We challenge you....

The 2.6 challenge is sweeping the nation in a bid to save charities who have been hugely impacted by the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events up and down the country due to Coronavirus.

The Prince of Wales Hospice are facing a loss of up to  £500,000 from the closure of the Hospice's chain of retail stores and  the cancellation of events. Their biggest fundraising event, the Cyclothon that was due to take place in May brings a loss of £25,000 alone.

In response to huge drops in charities income, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help with  fundraising and save the UK’s charities.

The campaign, The 2.6 Challenge, will launch on Sunday 26 April – what should have been the date of the 40th edition of the London Marathon, the world’s biggest one day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019.
From Sunday 26 April, The Prince of Wales Hospices urges its community to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise for the Hospice. The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.

Talking about the challenge, Fundraising Manager, Jill Kirkham said;

'We're really disappointed about the cancellation of our fundraising events, we know how much our supporters were looking forward to them. The 2.6 challenge is a fantastic alternative and we would love you to take part on behalf of our Hospice.

'You don't have to be a marathon runner to join in, we certainly aren't! We want you to be as creative as possible and come up with your own challenge based around the numbers 2.6 or 26. Whether you want to do 26 press ups, eat 26 donuts or run 2.6 miles on your daily exercise, complete your challenge from the 26th April, and help raise vital funds to support Hospice care.'
