Tigers volunteer at our Hospice!

Friday, 15 December 2017
Our patients and staff received a very special visit last week, when the entire Castleford Tigers team came to the Hospice to spread some Christmas cheer.

As our charity of the year partner, the Tigers players are actively involved with both fundraising, and supporting campaigns throughout the year. Building on the success of last year’s visit, the players once again took a day out of their busy schedules to come down to the Hospice on Tuesday 12 December.

During their visit, the lads got their hands dirty and built marquees for our Light up A Life service, which took place later that week. They also visited patients on the ward, and joined in with the Outreach patient Christmas party.

Incare patient, Sarah, received a special visit from some of the team in her room, she said; “They’re lovely lads, I had a great visit, and it was good to meet them all.”

Speaking on the Day, Tigers player, Jake Webster said; “I was in the day unit, we’ve been playing games, a few quizzes, a bit of bingo, mingling with the patients that are in and really just trying to spread some Christmas joy.

“I’ve been down here a few times and there’s nothing but smiles on their faces. It’s great to get down here and do what we can to help out; it’s something that we really like to do.”

Health Care Assistant, Barbara Hughes met the team on the day at the patients Christmas party, she said; ‘I’m a huge Castleford Tigers fan, and it was fantastic that the players took the time to come down and see us. The visit was really well received from both staff and patients. Hospice care is all about making every moment count, and this is something we really won’t forget. Thank you to the team for their continued support.”
