Marks & Spencer pledge to raise £25,000 for Hospice

Wednesday, 8 June 2016
The staff and volunteers at Marks & Spencer in Pontefract are on a mission – to raise £25,000 across two years for the Hospice.  Best of all, they’re already half way there!

Last month, we invited colleagues and fundraising volunteers from the Marks & Spencer Pontefract store to a very special celebration event, where we toasted their incredible fundraising efforts.

Staff at the store chose The Prince of Wales Hospice as their Charity of the Year for 2015/2016. Through bake sales, bag packing, raffles and other fundraising activities, they raised over £12,800, beating their initial £10,000 target.

On why they chose to support the Hospice, a staff member commented; “Everyone in Pontefract knows the Hospice. It’s because it’s so well known that everybody wants to get behind the charity.”

The staff at Marks & Spencer are supported by a group of fundraising volunteers, who have been praised for their commitment and enthusiasm. Dawn O’ Hara, Finance and Operations Section Manager said; “The ladies that come in and help us out at events are incredible.”

At the celebration event, we caught up with volunteer bag packers June Gill and Julie Bullen who regularly help out at the store. June said; “We’ve got a degree in bag packing now. It’s amazing how many people you talk to who know about the Hospice and have had dealings with it and want to tell you their story.”

This year the Marks & Spencer team can’t wait to do it all again, and have chosen the Hospice as their charity of the year for 2016/2017.

In a speech made at the celebration event, M&S Manager, Mandy Chippendale, gushed with pride about her team’s achievement. She said: “It’s been a big team effort, I’m really proud we’ve achieved that £10,000. This year it’s great that we will be doing it all again and we’ve committed £25,000 over the two years – that is what we WILL achieve.”

Good luck to all at M&S Pontefract – we’re overwhelmed by your continued support – thank you!
