A toast to the Queen!

Hundreds turned out in the rain to support The Prince of Wales Hospice at our annual garden party, which raised a fantastic £2,800!

This year we celebrated in style with a royal theme to toast the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The event also marked 25 years to the day that Prince Charles officially opened the Hospice.

This fun, family day out had something to suit everyone. There were tombolas, garden games, a number of stalls and so much more! We also had delicious cakes and plenty of Pimms on offer.

The garden party included a live performance by the band ‘Easy Listening’ and a fantastic show put on by Claire’s School of Dance. The dancers didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits, and danced their heart out in the rain!

We also unveiled our celebration tree at the garden party, a beautiful artist-designed tree sculpture. By making regular donations, supporters can have a message inscribed on a metal leaf or acorn on the tree. The tree has been sponsored by Simplyhealth and is now installed in the Hospice courtyard.

We’d like to thank all of the local businesses who attended or donated items; we really couldn’t have done it without you!  A special thank you to Amazing Cakes, Batesons Bakery, Brakes Food, Pontefract Bus Station Cafe, Coca Cola, Crown Point Garden Centre, Hinetts Bakery, Michelle’s Flowers, Mick Last and Adam’s Bakery.

Michelle Foulkes, Events and Community Fundraising Co-ordinator said:  “We were so pleased with the turn out on the day. Despite the bad weather people put on their wellies and came along to support the Hospice. I’d like to thank our amazing volunteers for helping out at the event; over 40 people volunteered their time to make the day a great success.”
