6 Year Old Hospice Hero Raises £1,000

Thursday, 29 March 2018
Reece Griffiths, a 6 year old school-boy from Castleford, recently raised over £1,000 for The Prince of Wales Hospice by swimming 1 mile in loving memory of his Grandma.
On 4th March, Reece took to the waters, determined to complete his 1 mile swimming challenge at Pisces Swimming School in Ackworth. Reece was inspired to support his local Hospice following the care his Grandma, Diane, received.
Previously, Reece achieved his 1000 metres swimming award, which his Grandma was able to watch him do. Diane Griffiths sadly passed away on 14th September 2017 at the age of 64, following an 8 year battle with cancer. Following the loss of his Grandma, Reece said, “Grandma never got to see me swim my mile.”
Reece’s proud mum, Kelly Griffiths, set up an online fundraising page, detailing why he had chosen to set himself such a hard challenge. “The Prince of Wales Hospice was Diane’s choice for her end of life care, and what a brilliant choice that was! They were amazing and we couldn’t have wished for better.”
The Prince of Wales Hospice would like to thank Reece, and all who have supported his fantastic fundraising efforts. The funds raised will help to support local people affected by life-limiting illnesses, and their families.
