People volunteer for many different reasons. Some have a connection with the hospice through family members and friends we have cared for, some wish to give something back to their community and others come to strengthen their CV by developing new skills.
Our volunteers are of all ages and come from a variety of backgrounds. No matter what the reason, volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people and to support your local charity.
Volunteering opportunities vary depending where we have vacancies, but may include:
Occasional help at hospice and community events, membership of support groups organising their own fundraising and administrative support in the fundraising team.
Ideally volunteers are asked to commit to helping on a regular basis, typically a morning or an afternoon each week. However, we are very flexible for those who would like to put in more time or less.
First point of contact for visitors, in person and by telephone, as well as basic administration duties.
Volunteers are welcome to work alongside our nursing teams in both Incare and in Day Therapy. We also need volunteers who have complementary therapy experience and qualifications to enhance our existing complementary therapy service.
Help provide admin support to the ward by becoming a ward clerk. Duties include answering the phone, requesting and returning medical notes, calling other professionals, making up notes and booking transport.
Incare Patient Aide:
This role is to assist the nursing team in ensuring patients rooms are ready for their mid day meals, carrying meals to and from patient rooms and offering to prepare and make drinks.
Preparing and serving meals, plus washing up, of course!
Ironing, dusting and vacuuming our homely hospice.
Seasonal work pruning, weeding and planting.
If you are unsure about which area is right for you or for more information please contact the hospice on 01977 708868 or fill in a contact form.
