The Prince of Wales Hospice 3rd annual Burns Night was held at the Kings Croft Hotel in Pontefract on Saturday. Thanks in part to the sponsorship of Scottish and Southern Energy Ferrybridge C Power Station, the event raised a magnificent £2300 for the charity.

Fundraiser Lisa Sherratt said, “It was a lovely evening and great to see people get into the spirit of the occasion wearing kilts and lots of tartan!  Thank you to everyone who attended and special thanks to David MacDonald, our toast master, and Gordon Laycock, our piper, who both gave up their Saturday evenings to make the evening as traditional as possible!”

Santa Dash

Pontefract Park - December 2009

sponsored by Scottish and Southern Energy, Ferrybridge C Power Station

dscf2017Over 200 Santas of all ages dashed round the racecourse in December, raising funds for the hospice.

From our eldest Santa at 71, to 3 week old Lily who joined mum Alyson, dad Richard and 12 year old sister Felicia on the 2.3 mile dash from the comfort of her pushchair, everyone got in the festive spirit.

Senior Fundraiser, Mandy Metcalfe, said: “What a fantastic event! We are still receiving sponsorship money and really hope that we can match the amazing £5,500 raised in 2008."

20th Anniversary Ball

Oulton Hall Hotel - November 2009

sponsored by St Clements Care Services

Sue Cunniff, Retail Operations Manager gave a very moving account of her connection with the hospice and guests were all presented with sparklers to light and asked to give a 30 second silence to remember loved ones.

After a sumptuous dinner raffle, auction and heads and tales game, guests were entertained by a lively performance from The Casablanca Boys.

A fitting celebration of 20 years of care at the hospice, and over £10,000 raised for care at the hospice today.

China Trek

May 2009dscf0722 small

Four ladies pushed themselves to the limit for the hospice on a sponsored trek of The Great Wall of China. The first challenge was to raise the required £2650 sponsorship, though car boot sales, sponsored events, pub nights and much more, then complete the tough training programme.

June Gill celebrated her 70th birthday earlier this year, but tackled the challenge with gusto. In fact, all the ladies successfully completed the 10-day trek, including climbing the famous Heaven’s Ladder, 200 steps up a sheer cliff face in the heart of the Yanshan Mountains, and zip sliding across a lake.

Like this? Why not take part in the China Trek or the new Peru Trek in 2010?
