Three Castleford working mums are in training for the biggest personal challenge any of them have ever faced. Sisters Sharon Womersley, aged 47 and Linda Rider, aged 53, along with friend Tracy Proud, aged 45, are taking part in a London to Paris Cycle in September to raise funds for the Hospice.
Sharon, Linda and Tracy will be facing a 300 mile cycle to reach their destination and have never cycled anything near the distances of up to 95 miles per day that will be necessary to complete the challenge!
Sharon and Linda’s mum, Molly Dean, passed away in the Hospice 9 years ago and the sisters have supported the Hospice in many ways since then. Sharon says:
“It’s just an amazing place and I don’t think I could ever repay what the Hospice did for my mam, or for us. You only have to be touched by the Hospice once and you’re hooked – hook, line and sinker! I feel I’m coming home when I walk through the door, it so welcoming. Everybody deserves the five star treatment the Hospice gives and we are just glad our mam was able to come here.”
Tracy, who owns Kendell Cycles in Castleford with husband Gary, has taken part in the Hospice’s Cyclothon every since Gary’s mum, Margaret Proud, passed away 15 years ago. Tracy, who is a member of Featherstone Road Club, explained why she has decided to take part:
“It’s a personal challenge and everybody needs a challenge! I have had a good response when I have asked people to support me through sponsorship so far but all three of us have a long way to go yet!”
Linda added:
“The Hospice is our passion and I am really excited about this challenge! I know I will be crying when I get to Paris because it will be such an emotional sense of personal achievement and to be doing it for the Hospice is just wonderful.”
Sharon, Tracy and Linda are amazing! They are all ardent supporters of the Hospice and are also great ambassadors in the community too, always spreading the word to encourage more supporters to come on board! All three ladies will be training extremely hard to reach the fitness level to complete this challenge and they would very much appreciate support in raising the minimum £1,300 sponsorship they each need to raise. They would also be delighted to hear that other people would like to join them on this fantastic trip through rural France to the magical capital city! |
