    Training

    Training for healthcare professionals
The hospice hosts and enables seminars to give healthcare professionals the confidence and knowledge to deal with palliative care issues in their job.
    Topics for future seminars include:
    • Management of breakthrough pain
    • Difficult decisions
    • Ethical dilemmas
Please contact Amanda Henderson in the clinical team by email or by calling 01977 781471 if there is a palliative care issue you would like to suggest for future training.
We also invest in educating and training tomorrow’s healthcare professionals in palliative care. We host intensive one-day introductions to palliative care for pre-registration medical students from the Leeds School of Medicine six times a year. Feedback from this well- evaluated programme shows we are helping to demystify hospice care.
    Training the hospice care team
All our staff are trained in-house and externally in a way that links clearly to the competencies required for their role.
Where possible our training is co-ordinated with other palliative care providers, such as Macmillan Cancer Care and our neighbouring hospices, to share knowledge and ensure resources are effectively used.
